“I hope that within the next 12 months we will see FREYJA in operation.” Zelenskyy on new major agreements with Europe in developing its own anti-ballistics
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the joining of new European partners to the FREYJA project, which aims to create an air defense system to shoot down enemy ballistic missiles.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the joining of new European partners to the FREYJA project, which aims to create an air defense system to shoot down enemy ballistic missiles.
He stated this following a visit to France.
«I hope that within the next 12 months we will see FREYJA in operation. The threat of ballistic missiles in the world will only grow. This is one of the main consequences of the wars between Russia and Iran. Therefore, FREYJA must become a reality,» Zelensky noted on his Tg channel.
He emphasized that FREYJA is a joint project in the interests of all of Europe, and the negotiations on it were attended by Ukraine, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, NATO leadership, and the European Union.
In addition, companies such as FP, Thales, HENSOLDT, Diehl Defence, Saab, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, Weibel, Leonardo, MBDA, Eurosam, Safran and Destinus are ready to join the project.
«Everyone present here is part of what we need to create this system. I am grateful to the companies for their willingness to work together,» Zelenskyy added.
According to the president, Ukraine is completing work on «its part» of the project — the anti-ballistic missile — but other partners have radars and other critically important components.
«It is important that we join forces. Today, at the leadership level, it is very important to politically confirm that FREYJA is our joint project,» he believes.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Europe can become a world leader in the production of high-quality anti-ballistic systems without political dependence on other countries.
«Europeans themselves will be able to decide how many systems Europe needs and where they should be placed. This would create a strategically new situation. Each European system would add its strength and provide different parts of Europe with a strategic basis for defense,» the president noted.
