Jurors were shown a video of Murati's testimony during the second week of the trial. According to her, Altman was not always honest with colleagues, which undermined trust within the leadership team at a time when the company was actively developing and implementing its AI products.
“What bothered me was that Sam would say one thing to one person and the exact opposite to another,” Murati said under oath. She added that the CEO’s behavior created “chaos” and that he occasionally resorted to outright deception. She said Altman’s actions undermined her role as technical lead.
Murati, who served as acting CEO for a few days in 2023 after Altman's unexpected dismissal, admitted that despite all the conflicts, she wanted to keep him in his position at the time. She explained this by saying that without Altman there was a catastrophic risk of the company's complete collapse. Mira Murati is no longer working at OpenAI - she left the corporation to found her own AI startup.
Recall that the lawsuit against OpenAI was initiated by the company's co-founder Elon Musk, who is demanding $150 billion in damages. He claims that Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman violated the original agreement - to create artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity .
As for Murati, after leaving OpenAI, she launched an artificial intelligence startup called Thinking Machines Lab. The team includes about 30 leading researchers and engineers from competing companies, including OpenAI, Meta, and Mistral.
