"In 10 years in IT, there has never been such a thing where it was impossible to find a job within a year." The cry of the soul of a service technician who has been looking for a job for a year: sent out over 1,000 resumes and had only one interview

Chief Technology Officer Max Dorash shared his experience of job searching. During the year of searching, he sent out over 1,000 resumes and had only one interview.

«A whole year in search of a job. In 10 years in IT, there has never been such a thing that it was impossible to find a job within a year — just silence. Previously, I didn’t have time to think about finding a job, as they wrote to me (word of mouth) with offers, today more than a thousand submitted resumes — silence, in the best case, one response out of 100 receives a response like „under consideration“ or „you are not suitable for us“, when the match with the vacancy description is more than 500%,» he wrote on LinkedIn.

The specialist had only one interview in a year. «Karl, one. It feels like no one even looks at resumes, and all the vacancies are published for visibility…», he noted.

«I understand that today the market is empty, the economy is stagnant, and the appetite for risks is meager, but nothing new is being created. Existing products are not willing to expand, and those who have a job are holding on to it. But, damn, isn’t everything just as bad? Am I not understanding something and wasted the moment when the market bottomed out? Even LinkedIn doesn’t show my job search posts — it’s absurd,» the IT worker said emotionally.

Max said that he started his journey in IT in 2016. «At that time, there weren’t as many resources for finding a job as there are now, but eyes were running wide from the large number of vacancies, and everyone tried to offer better conditions than others, there was a struggle for candidates. Over the past eight years, I have built three startups from scratch as a service center. But something went wrong — now candidates are fighting for a place in the company, and they, in turn, are being sorted out in a disrespectful manner,» the specialist noted.

He added that he is still looking for a job as a CTO or VP of Engineering, Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager and would be happy to consider any other roles.

There are over 160 comments under the IT worker’s post.

«A very high position. There are fundamentally fewer such vacancies, for obvious reasons. If you look for vacancies at a lower level (architecture, code, project management), then there are much more such vacancies,» advises Software Engineer Lev Vanyan.

«If your resume doesn’t get a response, you most likely won’t pass the bot’s review, so fix your resume, although I doubt you haven’t done this in a year, but I don’t see any other reasons for the 1 in 100 statistic,» notes developer Yevgenia Sherbina.

IT experts also advise Max to look at positions lower in title, create several resumes for different positions, and fill out a high-quality LinkedIn profile. By the way, many situations similar to Max’s are also recounted in the comments .
