Trump has appointed a prominent pro-Russian businessman to be in charge of AI and crypto in the White House

«David will focus on making America the undisputed world leader in both areas. He will protect free speech on the Internet and take us away from big tech bias and censorship,» Trump wrote on the Truth Social network, Business Insider reported.

Sachs' responsibilities will include creating a legal framework for cryptocurrencies in the US and leading the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. According to information on the White House website, the council is an independent advisory committee comprising representatives from industry, academia, and non-profit organizations with diverse perspectives and experiences. The Biden administration does not have a similar stance on cryptocurrencies and AI.

David Sachs was the chief operating officer at Elon Musk and Peter Thiel’s PayPal, and in 2017 co-founded the venture capital fund Craft Ventures. His investments include SpaceX, Palantir, Uber and Airbnb.

The businessman was an active supporter of Trump. In June, he organized a charity fund-raising evening in San Francisco, tickets for which cost $50,000 per person, and in some tiers — up to $500,000- and recorded a podcast with Donald Trump.

However, Sachs was not always a fan and also donated to American politicians Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton, Robert Kennedy Jr., and Ron DeSantis. In addition, he criticized Trump, saying that he was responsible for the riot in the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

What David Sachs can be called consistent is in the Ukrainophobic narratives that he actively spreads on social networks. In his X (Twitter) account, the businessman predicts the defeat of Kyiv almost every week and calls for a decrease in support for Ukraine, which has been resisting a full-scale Russian invasion for more than 1,000 days.

In November, Sachs wrote that the war in Ukraine «is a hoax» and stated that «the vast majority of the population of Crimea and Donbas are ethnic Russians and want to be with Russia.»

In another post, he called for the words of Russian politicians and propagandists to force Ukraine to make peace with Russia, with «taking into account the realities on the ground», that is, the annexation of Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

The Vector publication also reminds that earlier Saks claimed that the Ukrainian government was «probably» behind the terrorist attack in «Crocus City Hall» on March 22, 2024, in the suburbs of Moscow and reposted a video that allegedly indicates a connection between Ukraine and ISIS.
