As TechCrunch reports, the toolset covers both voice-to-voice and voice-to-text translation scenarios. The company confirmed support for Ukrainian at launch. It offers the following tools that support DeepL Voice:
Voice for Meetings: a plugin for Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The system generates translated subtitles or audio in the participant’s native language (in particular Ukrainian) directly during the speaker’s speech.
Voice for Conversations: A mobile solution that allows you to translate conversations during in-person meetings. Users can communicate via a single device or connect to group translation via a QR code.
DeepL also provides access to an API, which allows third-party companies to integrate the language layer into their own IT solutions, for example, customer service systems or internal training platforms.
According to the developers, the current architecture of the system is based on sequential transformation: speech recognition (STT), text translation and subsequent speech synthesis (TTS). DeepL notes that this approach currently provides the highest accuracy, but in the future it is planned to switch to end-to-end models to reduce signal latency.
Ukrainian is included in the list of languages that the system recognizes and transcribes. In total, Voice supports over 30 languages for input and over 100 languages for output in text format. The system also supports glossaries for correct translation of highly specialized terms and internal names of organizations.
Recall that DeepL added support for the Ukrainian language in September 2022. In May 2024, the company raised $300 million in investment at a valuation of $2 billion to develop enterprise-level AI products. Earlier, the developers also introduced DeepL Write, a tool for editing and stylistic correction of texts.
