Nvidia is preparing to introduce a new generation of its RTX 5000 graphics cards, which will likely support a new iteration of its real-time image scaling technology, DLSS 4.0. The previous version was largely exclusive to the RTX 4000 series graphics cards.

As reported by Wccftech, the ASUS RTX 5080 graphics card with the «DLSS 4» prefix has been spotted in a European store. Its price is 1700 euros, but since this is a vendor version, we can expect the reference Founders Edition to have a lower price in the $1200-$1300 range.

It was previously reported that chipmakers Nvidia and AMD are asking partners to speed up deliveries of next-generation graphics processors to the US market in order to meet rising tariffs that could raise prices for graphics cards by 40%.

DLSS 4.0, which will replace DLSS 3.5 for better scaling and increased performance in games. Previously, the emergence of a new version of the well-known technology was not reported, but since AMD also plans to release FSR 4 along with RDNA 4 GPUs, most likely NVIDIA will not update its DLSS 3.5, but will release a new version.

DLSS 3.0 leveraged the new generation of Optical Flow Accelerator (OFA) found in the Ada Lovelace-generation RTX GPUs. The new OFA is faster and more accurate than the OFA found in previous RTX Turing and Ampere GPUs. This makes DLSS 3.0 exclusive to the RTX 4000 series of graphics cards, although older GPUs also get a boost from the technology.

Nvidia later released DLSS 3.5, which added ray tracing, replacing multiple antialiasing algorithms with a single AI model trained on five times more data than DLSS 3. Ray tracing is available on all RTX GPUs and in the first target games with path tracing (so-called «full ray tracing»), including Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC, Portal with RTX, and Alan Wake 2.

The RTX 5080 is expected to feature 10,752 Cuda cores, 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM, and a 360W TDP. The RTX 5080 is the only card in the lineup that is likely to feature the fastest GDDR7 memory at 30Gbps, while the others will feature 28Gbps memory speeds.

NVIDIA is reportedly launching the RTX 5080 on January 6th, even earlier than the RTX 5090, and it is expected to hit retail stores on the 21st of this month.
