The Ukrainian project DotMap has become a full-fledged interactive map designer

The Ukrainian interactive project DotMap, which began as a single map of war events, has been scaled up to a full-fledged constructor. From now on, users of the platform can independently create custom maps, add labels, photos and descriptions to them for tourist routes, historical chronicles or city guides.

The service developer announced this in the Reddit community, where he shared the results of the team’s work over the past six months and urged users to test the updated interface.

The platform was developed using the Next.js framework and the Supabase database management system. According to the author, the designer’s interface was made dark, minimalistic, and optimized for speed.

To demonstrate the capabilities of the updated designer in practice, the platform already has two large built-in projects. The first is a detailed interactive chronicle of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and the second is a visual guide to Chernobyl. Both cases demonstrate how the designer can be used to structure complex information on a geographical map.

The designer operates on a freemium model and offers several pricing plans. The Free plan allows you to create one map for 50 events.

Paid plans start at $3 per month:

  • the Explorer tariff ($3/month) offers the creation of three maps with up to 200 events each;
  • the Ultimate tariff ($5/month) is designed for one card, but increases the event limit to 2000;
  • The maximum Pro plan ($7/month) allows you to deploy up to 10 maps with a limit of 500 events on each and gives you full access to all marker styles.

The developers are currently collecting user feedback on the UI/UX and planning to implement new features. You can test the tool at dotmap.app.

Recall that dev.ua previously reported on DotMap. In the initial stages, the service functioned as a geographical map, where each dot marked an event in the Russian-Ukrainian war with a specific date, details, and links to primary sources.
