This is reported by the publication «Militarnyi». The new drone is an important step towards creating a fully autonomous complex to counter enemy strike drones.
The acquisition and guidance system was developed by SkyFall’s internal R&D team. Thanks to optical sensors, artificial intelligence is able to lock on to a target at a distance of up to one kilometer. This allows the operator to make decisions and act much faster in difficult combat conditions.
«The AI model allows the interceptor to detect and capture enemy targets faster than the human eye,» SkyFall representatives noted.
An important technological advantage of the P1-SUN Long is that its AI module runs on standard central processing units (CPUs) and does not require scarce and expensive graphics processing units (GPUs). This engineering solution allows the company to maintain a stable production rate even in the face of a global shortage of specialized AI equipment.
In addition, the developers have implemented a remote software update function.
«You don’t need to hand over the drone to the company to update the AI model. This can be done remotely, directly at the crew’s location,» SkyFall explained.
P1-SUN Long features:
To train the neural network, data from real combat missions of the previous generation P1-SUN interceptors, simulation results, as well as tests using a special air vehicle that simulates the thermal footprint of Shahed drones were used.
P1-SUN Long has already successfully passed tests in real combat conditions and has dozens of confirmed downed enemy drones to its credit.
Earlier, SkyFall and European aerospace giant Airbus Defence and Space signed a memorandum of strategic partnership. The alliance will focus on integrating Ukrainian technologies into the European security system and strengthening the protection of Ukrainian airspace from missile and drone attacks.
