Defence Tech Academy launches in Ukraine, the first online platform focused exclusively on training for the defense industry

Oleksiy Ignatenko, Head of EdTech projects, announced the launch of the Defence Tech Academy (DTA), an online platform about military production. The project partners are the UAV manufacturer Blyskavka-1 and the Last Capitalist initiative.

The project arose from a simple observation: EdTech and industry in Ukraine live in different worlds. This is especially acutely felt at MilTech right now — the company is facing a catastrophic shortage of engineers.

The idea, according to Alexey, grew out of castdevs with MilTech companies. Among the various needs, one sounded the loudest — everyone is sorely lacking people, and especially engineers. Hence the focus of the platform: to provide special skills to those who want to help the army through the creation of technologies.

The founders admit that they are not the first in Ukraine to provide training for the defense industry. But they claim to be the first platform that focuses exclusively on this area — without branching out into other markets.

«Defense tech is not just drones. It’s embedded systems, hardware engineering, secure communication systems, UAV engineering, project management, analytics, investments, and infrastructure that is shaping a new defense industry,» say the project initiators.

The team’s dream is for any MilTech company to know that if a person has completed a course at DTA, they are definitely a strong specialist. Something like a quality mark for the industry.

«We have set an ambitious goal: every DTA graduate who receives and signs an offer from one of our partner companies will receive a 100% refund of their tuition fees. We believe that the skills needed by the defense industry should not be a financial burden for those who are ready to acquire them. Therefore, we are building a model where employers are interested in hiring our graduates — and are ready to invest in it. We are now forming a network of partner companies and working out these mechanics. This is our goal for the first year — and we are publicly taking on this responsibility,» the project description says.

The platform is in the pre-launch phase. The team has hired experienced producers and is actively preparing the first courses. One of the products will be free — but with access only for the military.

The team is also open to partnerships: if you are a specialist with experience in the industry and want to become a course author, you can write to Oleksiy directly on LinkedIn .
