Telegram founder Pavel Durov responded to the blocking of Russian propaganda in the European Union in a post on his Telegram channel.
Durov said that access to some Russian media outlets on Telegram channels had been restricted in the European Union in accordance with the EU Digital Services Act (DSA) and due to sanctions. He noted that at the same time, Telegram channels of all Western media outlets remained accessible in Russia.
«Meanwhile, all Western Telegram media channels remain freely accessible in Russia. Who would have thought that in 2025, Russian Telegram users would have more freedom than European ones?» wrote Vinyu
As a reminder, Telegram channels of several Russian propaganda media outlets stopped opening for users in Europe on December 29. Among them are the RIA Novosti news agency, the Izvestia and Rossiyskaya Gazeta publications, as well as the Russia Today, Rossiya 1, Channel One and NTV TV channels. When trying to access the channel, a message appears: «This channel is unavailable because it violated local legislation.»
