According to the Metropolitan Police, two Kyiv residents, aged 26 and 27, posed as computer technicians. They posted ads in the entrances of houses offering laptop, computer and mobile phone repair services, and accepted orders exclusively from elderly clients.
The police uncovered their fraud in July 2025. Investigators have now sent an indictment to court.

During the investigation, it was established that upon completion of the "repair", the men, taking advantage of the fact that elderly residents do not understand the cost of services, forced them to pay inflated prices or independently logged into the victim's personal account via internet banking and transferred funds.
The victims of the fraudulent scheme were four Kyiv residents aged 67 to 83, and the losses they suffered amounted to about UAH 1.5 million.
"In some cases, pensioners actually gave away the last money they had saved at home, paying for the "repair" of equipment," the police note.

During a search of the offenders' residence, law enforcement officers seized material evidence: brochures with advertisements, business and bank cards, as well as money obtained illegally. At the same time, law enforcement officers found a narcotic substance — cannabis — on one of the offenders.
