This is reported by Bloomberg. Artificial intelligence is designed to simplify daily decision-making in the field and optimize the use of resources, including fertilizers.
The assistant operates on a large language model, the details of which Deere & Co. keeps private. The tool is able to analyze yield and soil indicators in real time while the equipment is moving, eliminating the need for farmers to wait until the end of the growing season to take stock.
«We believe that throughout the season, a farmer has to make hundreds of decisions that have economic significance. Now JD is the researcher for the farmer — a data analyst who seeks those answers and does it much more efficiently,» said Dianna Kovar, global president of Deere & Co.’s agriculture and turf division.
Along with the JD release, the company released a «farmer data statement,» stating that users retain full control over their own information, and Deere & Co. commits not to share it with third parties or government agencies.
Given farmers’ reluctance to purchase new expensive equipment due to economic factors, JD’s functionality will be completely free for app users. The full launch of the tool for a wider audience will take place later this year.
Deere & Co is one of the key players in the global agrotech market. In Ukraine, its digital tools, in particular the Operations Center platform, are actively used by the largest agricultural holdings and farms.
The company’s remote control technologies have already demonstrated their effectiveness: in 2022, Deere & Co. remotely blocked John Deere equipment worth over $5 million that Russian occupiers had stolen from a dealership in Melitopol.
