American cloud provider Edgio has closed its Lviv office and declared bankruptcy. At least 60 IT professionals in the Ukrainian office have lost their jobs.

The American company Edgio (previously known as Limelight Networks), which specializes in content delivery and cloud solutions, has declared bankruptcy.

In January, the company stopped working in Ukraine and laid off more than 60 engineers of various specialties, according to the Telegram channel «Overheard in IT», which is run by DOU editors. This mostly affected developers and testers.

It is noted that the employees were given a month’s notice and were allowed to leave the equipment.

Among the reasons for the bankruptcy is the termination of cooperation between Azure CDN and Edgio. Edgio. In late 2024, the company filed for bankruptcy, and in December Akamai acquired «separate assets.» These did not include technology, personnel or «assets related to the Edgio network, the company said in a statement.

However, currently, there is no information on the YouControl and Opendatabot portals about the bankruptcy of LLC «EGIO UKRAINE» with an office in Lviv.

Company specialists wrote about the closure a few months ago.

In response to posts about the job search, the Lviv Director Of Engineering, whose profile still indicates that he still works at the company, Viktor Voytovych wished the specialists success.

Limelight was founded in 2001 and went public in 2006. The original EdgeCast Networks was founded in 2006 with funding from Disney’s Steamboat Ventures before being acquired by Verizon in 2013.

EdgeCast was a subsidiary of Verizon from 2013 to 2016. Verizon acquired Yahoo! in 2017, merging it with its Verizon Digital Media Services business (including its CDN service) to form Oath Inc., and later Verizon Media. Funds managed by Apollo Global Management Inc. acquired Verizon Media in early 2021 and returned the EdgeCast and Yahoo names.

The company’s problems began after a failed merger with Edgecast in 2022, which led to financial difficulties. As a result, Edgio was unable to meet its debt obligations and filed for bankruptcy.
