Former Justice Minister Denys Malyuska said that Russian hackers used to focus on stealing information. However, now «their behavior has changed,» and they are not only stealing data, but also destroying it.
He also reported that during a large-scale cyberattack on Ukrainian state registers that occurred on December 19, the Russians deleted the State Register of Civil Status Acts.
«This is one of the most secret registers, where information is stored, in which, it would seem, there is no secret — that someone was born or got married. But at the same time, there is a secret that is strictly protected by law — the secret of adoption. This is far from the first resource that has been attacked by the Russians since the full-scale invasion,» Malyuska said in a comment to the Ukrainian News Agency.
According to him, despite the attack, the Ministry of Justice has many backup copies, so there is no doubt that the information will be restored.
He also noted that there is «no serious problem» with the Russians deleting the registers. According to Malyuska, most of the information the Russians claim to have stolen was already freely available.
As a reminder, on December 19, Russians attacked the website of the Ministry of Justice and most of the Ukrainian electronic registries. Currently, dozens of services for citizens are unavailable. They promise to restore their provision within two weeks to a month.
