The Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo NPC Vitaliy Zaichenko spoke about the consequences of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector and advised to reduce electricity consumption.
The Russian army has been attacking critical infrastructure in Ukraine for the second night in a row. On December 6, 704 drones, air-, sea- and ground-based missiles were used on Kyiv, Dnipro, Chernihiv, Poltava, Kremenchuk and Lutsk. The Ministry of Energy reported that Russia had carried out a strike on the energy sector, damaging energy system facilities in a number of regions.
Vitaliy Zaychenko noted that the most difficult situation with energy supply is currently in frontline regions, where emergency shutdowns are being used. In other regions, hourly shutdown schedules have been introduced.
Back on December 5, Ukrenergo predicted outages of 4-8 hours per day, but after new shelling in most regions, outages last 12-16 hours per day.
«The situation is quite difficult… We are no longer talking about days, we are talking about weeks when we will need to recover,» Zaichenko was quoted as saying by Ukrainska Pravda.
He said consumers should «reduce their consumption» as much as possible and «keep only the most energy-efficient appliances.» He advised using the most energy-intensive appliances «at night or when it’s very sunny outside.»
