Ukrainian company MacPaw, which created such popular Mac products as CleanMyMac and Setapp, introduced Eney at CES 2025. MacPaw claims that it is more than just another AI assistant, and rather a friendly companion or colleague.
«At MacPaw, we see a future in which AI assistants perform tasks efficiently, intuitively, responsively, and truly human-centered», — said company CEO Oleksandr Kosovan in a new blog.
According to him, Eney is a first-of-its-kind AI assistant that changes the way users interact with their computers. Kosovan believes that the term «AI assistant» does not fully reflect what Eney is and what it can become.
«We didn’t set out to just create another AI assistant—we wanted to develop something that could understand users on a deeper level. I call Eney a ‘computer creature,’ an AI companion with a distinct personality that changes the way people interact with their Macs by combining human-like intelligence with proactive task completion», — explained MacPaw’s CEO.
He announced the first launch of Eney «as an OS extension for Mac computers.» According to Alexander Kosovan, it is an intelligent companion that «lives on your desktop» and helps you perform tasks using simple dialog commands. Eney has a variety of integrations, including with MacPaw’s own applications and third-party software created by developers at Setapp.
«For example, if you want to remove the background of an image to isolate an object, you can ask Eney to do it with a simple command, ‘remove background’ or a similar phrase. By letting Eney handle small, but often time-consuming tasks, users can focus on their workflow without having to launch a separate application and do it manually», — Kosovan explained.
He emphasized that Eney is designed with security in mind and never performs any actions without the user’s permission. CEO MacPaw called Eney an important step in creating a new type of ecosystem «where users and machines work in unison».
«We started this process with Setapp, our marketplace, which hosts a thriving community of developers creating quality apps that provide the best user experience,» said Oleksandr Kosovan.
