A Ukrainian developer has released Fading Lexicon, a free online mobile RPG about learning English. In it, the player’s vocabulary is transformed into a magical arsenal.
According to the lore of Fading Lexicon, the world was not created, but written, and every mountain, river, and life was a chapter in a great book. This world is threatened by the Plague of Silence, which erases the words from the book, and players take on the role of the Cartographer of Clarity, who memorizes the words.
«Words are spells. Learning English here is not a routine, but a survival mechanic. To open a portal or defeat a monster, you have to remember the translation, use it during the quiz, and write the spell (English word) correctly,» the author of Fading Lexicon said about the gameplay.
When practicing words, each correct letter takes away health points from the enemy, and mistakes harm the player character.
«The project is at the very beginning. There are a lot of ideas, there is inspiration, the code is being written. I would be happy to have new players and constructive criticism,» the developer notes.
Fading Lexicon is currently available on Android via Google Play. The project author plans to release an iOS version by the end of the year.
