Former Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov has publicly commented on his resignation for the first time, hinting that his work for the state is not yet complete.
«Changes will definitely come. You thanked me for „Mriya“ and „Diya“. I thank you for the hope. I have not felt such responsibility even in government positions. Thank you to the veterans and military for keeping the front and honor. There is dialogue. I believe that everything will work out,» he wrote on social networks.
According to zn.ua, Fedorov may soon receive a new government role that will allow him to continue developing Ukrainian DefenceTech.
According to sources, he may be offered the position of miltech czar — a coordinator who will be responsible for the development of military technologies, innovations, and interaction between the state, the defense industry, and international partners.
The publication’s interlocutors note that such a model is used in some countries to centralize the management of strategic technological areas. This is not just another ministerial position, but a coordination function that should unite the military, the state, arms manufacturers, and international partners around the development of defense technologies.
According to sources, this is the scenario that some of Ukraine’s international partners are insisting on. In their opinion, this will allow Fedorov to maintain his influence on the Ukrainian defense and technology sector after he leaves the government and not lose the momentum of the reforms initiated in recent years.
There is currently no official confirmation regarding the creation of such a position or Fedorov’s possible appointment.
As a reminder, on July 15, the Verkhovna Rada supported the resignation of Mykhailo Fedorov from the post of Minister of Defense. His dismissal caused a significant resonance in the DefenceTech industry: the heads of Ukrainian defense companies and technology organizations publicly stated that it was during his tenure that it was possible to significantly accelerate the digitalization of the army, scale up the production of drones, and make the interaction of the state with manufacturers more open. Many representatives of the industry also expressed concern about the risk of losing the pace of reforms after the change in the leadership of the Ministry of Defense.
