Android developer Artem Pelevin has become accustomed to receiving intrusive friend requests from freelancers from Pakistan, who usually come with offers along the lines of «need to help work.» However, he recently received a call from a fellow Ukrainian from Poltava who, as it turned out, lives in Serbia.

«Recently, a fellow countryman from Poltava wrote to me, who, as it turns out, lives in Serbia (his Telegram is registered there) and is trying to negotiate some kind of collaboration with me only in English,» Artem Pelevin said on LinkedIn.
The developer was approached with a proposal by a certain Serhiy Tyutyunnyk — supposedly a developer and team leader who earns thousands of dollars on Upwork every month, according to screenshots of the correspondence.
«A fellow countryman from Poltava» offered to rent a developer’s Upwork account for long-term work at a «profitable» price. He promised complete security, monthly payments, and guaranteed that he knew the platform’s rules well. As a reward, he offered to give 10% of his earnings.
In the correspondence, the so-called Serhiy Tyutyunnyk explained the need for such a large number of Upwork profiles by the fact that most of his developers come from Asia, and customers on the platform prefer performers from Europe. That is why he is looking for European accounts for cooperation and assures that it is safe for the profile owner, because his team will only act as «virtual assistants.»
When the developer refused, calling the offer a «shady scheme» that threatened his reputation, Serhiy continued to insist on his point. When asked which Asian country his developers were from, he replied that they were from Japan, and tried again to get approval for the deal.
When the «teamlid» tried to persuade the developer again, Artem Pelevin asked the interlocutor a direct question: «Do you consider Kim Jong-un a dirty pig? Because this looks like help not to Japan, but to the DPRK.» After that, the dialogue broke off.
By the way, according to Artem, he himself does not currently use Upwork. In addition, LinkedIn has already banned the profile of the «fellow from Poltava.»
