The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has returned an application by Arab defense holding EDGE Group to purchase 30% of Ukrainian long-range drone and missile manufacturer Fire Point. The deal, which could have valued the company at $2.5 billion, has officially stalled, Forbes Ukraine reports .

As a reminder, EDGE Group submitted an application to the AMCU on December 30, 2025. On January 14, 2026, it was returned without consideration. As of March 13, the committee had not received a second application. Fire Point comments succinctly: «Working interaction with the AMCU continues. It is premature to talk about the details of the structure of the deal.»

Why could the AMCU return the application?

According to the publication, there are several versions of the refusal — and all of them do not contradict each other.

The first is technical. The AMCU sometimes returns applications to buy time in complex deals. In other large transactions, the time between the first and second submissions has been 53 to 77 days. It is possible that the parties are simply restructuring the deal so that it does not require the Committee’s decision at all — for example, if EDGE Group does not receive blocking rights.

The second is security. The deal concerns a company with rocket engine technologies. Transferring control to a foreign investor can be seen as a hidden transfer of strategic technologies — and the SBU may intervene here. There is a precedent: this is how the deal between China’s Beijing Skyrizon and Motor Sich stalled at one time.

The third is geopolitical. After the change in the security situation in the Middle East, the parties may have decided to take a break. «The parties may be influenced by external circumstances — this affects the speed of preparing a re-application,» says Mykhailo Lukashenko, a partner at the Aequo law firm.

What’s next?

Lawyers and market players do not rule out any scenario. The return of the application is not a failure: the deal can be restructured or simply postponed. EDGE Group’s interest in long-range weapons is unlikely to disappear — especially given the situation in the region.

Fire Point was founded in 2022, when it employed 18 people. The company now employs 3,500 people. Revenue in 2024 is UAH 4.3 billion, and in the first quarter of 2025, it is another UAH 2.6 billion.
