In Sweden, a 34-year-old former IT consultant for the Armed Forces was sentenced to compulsory forensic psychiatric treatment. Aitivets tried to pass secret information to Russian intelligence services in exchange for Russian citizenship and protection from Swedish authorities.
The Stockholm District Court announced the completion of the process. According to the case materials, the man worked as an IT consultant in the Swedish army from 2018 to 2022, where he had access to classified data. In the fall of 2025, he offered this information to the FSB and the GRU, for which he specially traveled to Moscow.
The investigation established that the crime was not completed only due to random circumstances. At the same time, a forensic psychiatric examination revealed that the man had a serious mental disorder, so instead of imprisonment, he was prescribed treatment with a special discharge regime.
The defendant himself denied his guilt. He claimed that the Swedish Ministry of Defense Radio Administration (FRA) had allegedly harassed him, blackmailed him, and aroused suspicion. Much of the investigation was classified, and the hearings were held behind closed doors.
"The prosecutor proved that the man attempted to disclose information to a foreign state that falls under the espionage statute," said court president Magdalena Hegg Bergvall in a press release following the hearing.
In addition to espionage, the IT worker was ordered to pay compensation for stalking an FRA security guard he was following in a car. The 34-year-old also remains in custody as a suspect in a conspiracy to murder a person in Sweden last December. According to the prosecutor's office, this crime was also partly planned in Moscow.
