Epic Games has filed a lawsuit against the popular game Fortnite on the Apple App Store after a judge ruled in favor of the game developer, accusing Apple of contempt of court.
Fortnite was removed from the iPhone and App Store in 2020 after Epic Games decided to update the iPhone game to include a link to the Epic Games website and thus avoid Apple's commissions. The move angered Apple and began a legal battle that lasted for years.
Last month, a court ruled in a victory for Epic Games, according to which Apple cannot charge a commission for clicking on links within its applications, CNBC reports .

Epic Games has also sued Google, which operates the Play Store for Android phones.
Apple takes a 15% to 30% cut of purchases made through its internal payment system. Linking to websites avoids these fees. Before last month's decision, Apple briefly allowed links to be placed on its system, but charged a 27% fee.
Other developers, including Amazon and Spotify, have already updated their apps to avoid Apple's fees and direct customers to their own websites for payment.
Fortnite has been available for iPhone in Europe since last year on the Epic Games Store. Third-party app stores are allowed in Europe under the Digital Markets Act. Users have also been able to play Fortnite on iPhone and iPad via cloud gaming services.
