Fraudsters send letters about "tax debt" on behalf of the State Tax Service. How to avoid becoming a victim of phishing

Criminals are sending out mass emails purporting to be from the State Tax Service of Ukraine, demanding that you urgently pay off a fictitious tax debt.

The mass phishing mailing was reported by the official resources of the State Tax Service.

In fraudulent letters, attackers report the existence of an “unpaid tax debt” and urge you to urgently click on a link to check the details or make a payment. To be convincing, the letters often contain a visual style and logos similar to the official symbols of the State Tax Service, and the sender addresses imitate official domains.

The tax office emphasizes that the service does not send demands for debt payment via links in emails. Clicking on such links can lead to the download of malicious software and the theft of users' confidential data.

Citizens and businesses are urged to follow the rules of cyber hygiene: do not open letters from suspicious senders, do not click on dubious links, and do not download attachments. It is recommended to check any information about the status of settlements with the budget exclusively through official State Tax Service resources, in particular, in the Taxpayer's Electronic Account.

Earlier, the Ukrainian government's computer emergency response team CERT-UA recorded a new wave of cyberattacks on the country's state institutions. Attackers are disguising malicious emails as notifications about the successful completion of courses on the popular educational platform Prometheus, trying to covertly install malicious software on victims' computers.
