ChatGPT’s popularity has begun to slow down. According to data from analytics company Sensor Tower, while OpenAI’s app still leads in downloads (50% of the market) and MAU (55%), Google Gemini is showing the fastest growth.
What happened
Analysts note that Gemini has overtaken ChatGPT in several indicators:
loading
user growth
time spent in the application
OpenAI is taking the situation seriously: in a recent code red note from Sam Altman, the team was tasked with focusing on personalization, stability, and improving image generation.
Figures that show the trend
There were 810 million active users on ChatGPT in November 2025. The increase since August is only 6%, which may indicate market saturation.
Gemini grew by 30% over the same period, largely due to the successful launch of the Nano Banana image generation model.
In the US, Gemini is more commonly used directly with Android, which gives Google an advantage in markets with a high share of Android devices.
Over the past seven months, Gemini has increased its market share by 3%, while ChatGPT has lost 3% over the past 4 months.
In November, Gemini users spent over 11 minutes per day in the app — a 120% increase from March.
ChatGPT saw usage time increase by only 6%, and in November it even dropped by 10% compared to July.
Competitors are coming
Other models are already catching up with Dider. In particular, Perplexity grew by 370% year-on-year, Claude by 190%, and ChatGPT added only +85% downloads year-on-year, which is below the average market rate (110%).
