Google’s blog notes that this version is expected to bring significant improvements to front-end and UI development, as well as improvements to fundamental coding tasks such as code transformation and editing and building complex agent workflows.
The company said that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) ranked first in the WebDev Arena ranking, which measures human preferences for a model’s ability to create functional web applications. Gemini 2.5 Pro is also used in the popular AI programming assistant Cursor.
«For developers already using Gemini 2.5 Pro, this new version will not only improve coding performance, but also solve key developer problems, including reducing the number of function call errors,» Google said in a blog post.
Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) is available through the Gemini API and Google’s Vertex AI platform and AI Studio, and costs the same as the Gemini 2.5 Pro model it replaces. It’s also available in Google’s Gemini chatbot app for web and mobile.
Just in March, Google introduced a new family of reasoning AI models, Gemini 2.5, that pause to «think» before giving answers. The company claims that Gemini 2.5 Pro Experimental outperforms solutions from OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, and DeepSeek in general AI tests that measure comprehension, math, coding, and other abilities.
Google recently expanded its free educational course «AI for Productivity» with new tools and workshops, including on creating a personal assistant Gems in Gemini. It is available to Ukrainians and helps deepen knowledge about artificial intelligence, automate routine tasks, and improve the way you do business.
