Google has announced expanded security features in the Android operating system aimed at combating mobile fraud, phishing and fake calls.
Thiswas reported on the official Google blog.
Key updates include enhanced protection mode in Google Messages, which uses Gemini cloud models with Private AI Compute technology. This allows you to analyze the complex context of correspondence with unknown senders and detect new types of attacks without compromising user privacy. The system also includes the Gemini Nano model, which checks the safety of unfamiliar links in real time.
In addition, Android has received new tools to prevent social engineering. In particular, when sharing the screen, Chrome and Android WebView automatically hide the fields for entering passwords and bank card details. The operating system will also block background call forwarding attempts and warn users if they try to enter MMI codes.
Google is also launching a real-time banking call verification feature that drops calls if the financial institution’s number is spoofed. Since launching a pilot in June, Android has blocked more than 3 million such fake calls.
According to the company, artificial intelligence in the Phone and Google Messages apps detects more than 5 million suspicious calls and messages every month. Google previously introduced fraudulent notification detection on Pixel smartphones, and plans to expand the feature to devices from other manufacturers later this year.
