“The war threw us back”. Getmancar CEO Taras Getmansky spoke about the service’s drop in revenue in Ukraine and its launch in Qatar

Taras Getmansky, founder and CEO of the car-sharing service Getmancar, said that the Russian full-scale invasion caused the Ukrainian market to fall 3-5 times, but he does not rule out its recovery up to 10 times after the end of the war.

«The Ukrainian market fell three to five times in finances after the war began. In clients and active users — up to seven times. The war threw us back, so after its end, a sharp jump is possible — five, six or even ten times within two years,» said Hetmansky in an interview with Forbes Ukraine.

He clarified that this will depend on demographics, economic policy, and security guarantees.

In 2025, Getmancar began operating in Lviv in addition to Kyiv and Dnipro. According to the head of the service, a pilot for two more Ukrainian cities was also being prepared.

«We planned to launch in Kharkiv and Odessa. Kharkiv is too dangerous now, Odesa is less risky, but still limited by current conditions. We were preparing a pilot in the city, but had to postpone it due to a number of factors: a small number of trips around the cities, a shortage of personnel, a curfew, and restrictions on the work of contractors,» Taras Hetmansky said.

The head of Getmancar clarified that the launch in these cities may take place when the company can «guarantee the proper level of service.»

At the beginning of the summer, the Getmancar car sharing service began operating in three German and five Romanian cities. Users of the service can rent cars by the day and drive throughout the European Union. The company also operates in Georgia and Moldova.

At the end of August, Getmancar launched in Qatar, the company’s first Arab market. There are 55 Getmancar petrol-powered cars available, with a minimum daily rate of $24.72.

«Service areas include Doha and the airport. It is possible to travel throughout the country and beyond with a special permit — additional insurance and documents for crossing the border,» Taras Hetmansky noted.

He did not rule out that the service will enter another new market by the end of the year. Hetmansky also said that the number of Getmancar users is 350,000 (of which 310,000 are in Ukraine), and the company’s valuation depends on the market.

«For example, we talked about synergy with a company from Singapore. They estimated our share in the joint project at no less than $30 million,» said the CEO of Getmancar.
