This week, GitHub reached a milestone of 1 billion repositories published to the platform. The billionth piece of code was shared by Asish Pokhrel from Nepal. And it was “shit.” No, that’s not a comment or opinion about the code, a repository is just the word “shit.”
Whether it was accidental or intentional is unknown. But despite its minimal content, the shit repository has become popular among the GitHub developer community. At the time of publication, it has had 79 pull requests, 155 forks, 190 issues raised, and 2,100 stars.
As you might expect, the “Issues” and “Requests” sections contain witty comments on Asish Pokhrel’s code. Among the issues raised are: “this code is crap,” “publishing issues,” and even a request for “macOS support.”
The GitHub.com/AasishPokhrel/shit requests section is also flooded with requests from developers for regional translations, emoji support, and more, writes Tom's Hardware.
