GitHub is giving developers access to third-party AI agents for programming with the launch of a new service, Agent HQ. Developers will be able to try out OpenAI’s Codex, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Jules, xAI, and Cognition’s Devin on GitHub in the coming months.

Developers with a GitHub Copilot subscription will gain access to a new Mission Control dashboard where they can control, manage, and track multiple AI agents for programming, The Verge reports.
«With this new set of AI controls, we’re providing a control plane for all agents used on GitHub, whether you’re using the GitHub programming agent or one of our partners’ programming agents within the platform,» said GitHub COO Kyle Daigle.
GitHub’s Agent HQ service will also allow developers to run multiple AI agents in parallel to perform the same task. They will be able to choose the agent they like best. Ahead of the official launch of Agent HQ, GitHub is making the OpenAI Codex available to Copilot Pro Plus users participating in the VS Code Insiders program.
GitHub is also launching several other tools, including a new Plan Mode in VS Code that uses Copilot to create a step-by-step plan for a task that its AI agent will then execute. GitHub is also adding a code review stage to Copilot, giving the agent access to tools like CodeQL that it can use to evaluate code before handing it off to a developer.
