The annual national award for teachers, Global Teacher Prize Ukraine, has named the winners of 2025. The winner of the special nomination «Mathematics Teacher» was Lesya Maksimko from Ivano-Frankivsk region.
The annual national award for teachers, Global Teacher Prize Ukraine, has named the winners of 2025. The winner of the special nomination «Mathematics Teacher» was Lesya Maksimko from Ivano-Frankivsk region.
The partner of this nomination is Ukrainian IT company SoftServe. The company notes that they support mathematics teachers because «quality mathematics education lays the foundation for the IT industry and the innovative economy.»
The press release states that Lesya Maksimko is a mathematics and computer science teacher at the Bytkiv Lyceum of the Pasichnya Village Council of the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
She won thanks to her teaching approach, which combines algebra and geometry with real-life problems, gamification, webquests, and storytelling, which helps children understand and remember complex concepts more easily. She works with classes at the New Ukrainian School, adapts tasks for children with special educational needs, and actively uses GeoGebra, Kahoot, Wordwall, Genially, Classtime, and other digital services.
«This year’s winner is confirmation that a math teacher is a guide to the world of logic and innovation. Therefore, we consider it important to support such leaders of change,» said Taras Kytsmey, co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of SoftServe.
The winner will receive 500,000 UAH to realize her own educational dream.
«For me, these 500,000 hryvnias are not just money, but a chance to realize a dream that I have been pursuing all my years of work at school. I know how important it is to give children the opportunity to explore, not just listen, so we will be able to equip a modern computer classroom with a 3D printer, an interactive panel, and everything necessary for the first programming and robotics projects. I want my students to see: the place where you were born does not determine the limits of your capabilities,» Lesya Maksimko commented on the victory.
Global Teacher Prize Ukraine is an annual national award for teachers — agents of educational change, held in Ukraine since 2017. The award is designed to recognize the achievements of teachers not only in relation to their students, but also in relation to society.
This year’s award ceremony for the winners in various nominations and the main winner took place on October 4. The main winner of the national award Global Teacher Prize Ukraine 2025 was Ruslan Shalamov, a biology and ecology teacher at the Scientific Lyceum «Obdarovannyst», Kharkiv. The victory in the nomination «Informatics Teacher» was won by Natalia Perekhrist, a teacher of computer science and English at the Comprehensive School of I–III Degrees No. 23 in the city of Ternopil.
