According to The Verge, Flow leverages Google’s latest advances in artificial intelligence, including Veo 3 (an advanced video generation model) and Imagen 4 (an image creation model capable of reproducing fine details). This combination allows Flow to create eight-second video clips that can be easily combined into coherent stories using built-in scene building tools.
Flow is like a movie editing app, but for creating videos with artificial intelligence. However, the idea behind Flow is not so much about creating long videos. According to Thomas Ilich, a product manager at Google Labs, Flow is supposed to help filmmakers quickly bring their ideas to life «on paper».
The tool is designed to support both seasoned professionals and beginners. The company claims that users can take full control over how each shot looks and feels, using detailed camera controls that adjust movement, angles, and perspective. The built-in Scenebuilder tool makes it easy to edit and expand on existing clips, helping creators reveal more of a scene or seamlessly transition to the next moment with consistent character continuity and movement.
To organize projects, Flow also features a simple asset management system where users can store and sort their cues and creative assets. For inspiration, there’s Flow TV, a curated hub showcasing a wide range of clips and channels created with Veo. Users can view the exact cues and techniques behind each clip.
Flow is available to US users who subscribe to the new Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra plans for $249.99 per month. Google AI Pro provides key Flow features and 100 generation per month, while Google AI Ultra provides the highest usage limits and early access to Veo 3 with native audio generation.
