This is stated in the announcement from Google for developers. The update covers the Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking models, which are capable of holding a conversation and performing background tasks without interrupting the conversation.
Gemini 3.8 Live is designed with a voice-to-voice approach, allowing for the integration of voice agents that perceive visual context in real time and analyze complex technical data, confirmation codes, or claim numbers. The Extended Thinking version additionally processes multi-step queries in the background, while simultaneously telling the user about the progress of tasks.
The technology supports over 97 languages and enables asynchronous API calls while streaming audio. The cost of using the new models is $0.005 per minute of audio input and $0.018 per minute of audio output. Integration is already available through partner platforms, including Vercel, LangChain, LiveKit, Agora, Fishjam, Pipecat, and Vision Agents.
Google also reminded about the capabilities of the specialized speech-to-text system Gemini 3.5 Transcribe. It supports over 85 languages and provides transcription with a low level of word errors — 4% for streaming and 2.6% for non-streaming. The model supports setting a terminology dictionary of up to 1000 words and an intelligent mode with the removal of placeholder words.
Google previously released Gemini 3.8 Flash , a new version of its fast AI model for programming, complex tasks, and autonomous agents. Along with it, the company launched Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, which can analyze code, find vulnerabilities, and suggest fixes.
