Google is shutting down its Jules AI coding tool: what users should do
Google has announced the closure of its experimental AI programming agent, Jules. The tool will cease operations on December 31, 2026, and its technologies and developments will be integrated into a single development platform, Antigravity. Starting November 11, 2026, the service will go into read-only mode.
Google has announced the closure of its experimental AI programming agent, Jules. The tool will cease operations on December 31, 2026, and its technologies and developments will be integrated into a single development platform, Antigravity. Starting November 11, 2026, the service will go into read-only mode.
Why is Google shutting down Jules?
The Jules project was launched in December 2024 as a standalone assistant that connected to GitHub repositories and could independently fix bugs, update dependencies, write code, and create tests in the cloud. In May 2025, Jules became available worldwide in public beta mode.
Google emphasizes that the closure is not related to technical failures or security issues, writes Gadgets Now. The company aims to consolidate its AI tools for developers within a single Antigravity platform to combine background task execution and AI agent capabilities in a single workspace.
Closure timeline
The process of rolling back the service will take place in two stages:
On November 11, 2026, Jules will go into read-only mode. Users will be able to view previous sessions, but will not be able to create new tasks or continue work;
On December 31, 2026, the service will be completely shut down and access will be permanently closed.
What should Jules users do?
All current sessions and projects must be finalized by November 11.
Source code, branches, and pull requests remain safe on GitHub. However, account settings, saved contexts, session history, and activity logs should be exported using the Jules console tool (CLI).
Since there is no direct replacement for Jules, Google recommends migrating workflows to the new Antigravity AI platform, where Jules' background functions will gradually be migrated.
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
