As TechCrunch reports, Google’s AI Edge Eloquent app is now available on iOS. It runs on local Gemma-based speech recognition models that need to be downloaded to the device. After that, dictation occurs without a network connection. While recording, the user sees the text in real time, and after a pause, the system automatically removes unnecessary speech insertions, self-corrects and makes the text more coherent.
The app has separate editing modes: you can convert text into a short or extended version, make it more formal, or highlight key points. It’s essentially a combination of dictation and basic editing, which previously required separate tools.
A local processing mode is also available without transferring data to the cloud. If you enable cloud mode, the application uses Gemini models for additional editing. Other features include recording history, search, dictation speed statistics, and support for your own dictionary for names and specialized terms.
The product is currently only available on iPhone, but the description mentions an upcoming Android version, which could indicate a test launch before wider integration into Google’s mobile ecosystem.
The key difference between this app and classic voice recorders is that it focuses not on accurate speech reproduction, but on the end result. This approach shows how Google is gradually shifting its focus from simple transcription to automatically transforming thoughts into finished text.
