Grammarly acquired Superhuman after a recent $1 billion funding round from General Catalyst . The company did not disclose financial terms of the deal, Reuters reports .
In 2021, Superhuman, which develops an AI tool for email, was valued at $825 million. The startup received over $110 million in investments, including from IVP and Andreessen Horowitz.
“Email continues to be the dominant communication tool in the world. Professionals spend about three hours a day in their inboxes. It is by far the most popular work application, the foundation of any productivity suite,” said Grammarly CEO Shashir Merotra. “Superhuman is a clear leader in this space.”
Superhuman CEO Rahul Vohra will join Grammarly as part of the deal, along with over 100 Superhuman employees.
“The Superhuman product, team and brand will continue,” Merotra added.
Vohra said the deal will give Superhuman access to “significantly greater resources” and allow the startup to invest more in artificial intelligence, as well as expand into calendaring, tasks, and collaboration tools.
Merotra and Vohra see an opportunity to integrate Grammarly’s AI-powered agents directly into Superhuman and build tools for enterprise customers. The goal is to give users access to a network of specialized agents that collect data from all their digital workflows, such as emails and documents, reducing the time spent searching for information or writing responses. The company is also entering a crowded AI-powered productivity tools space, competing with tech giants like Salesforce and a wave of startups.
