Grammarly is being transformed into a platform for many AI agents. One of the main differences from AI market leader OpenAI — ChatGPT — is that the Ukrainian-based company will deliver its agents to platforms where the user already works.
Grammarly has a different philosophy regarding AI agents than ChatGPT, said new CEO Shishir Merotra in an interview with Forbes Ukraine.
ChatGPT is focused on being a destination where users chat with a single AI agent. Grammarly will bring AI agents to platforms where users already work, such as Google Docs, Coda, Superhuman, Gmail, iPhone notes.
Shishir Merotra also highlighted a few differences. Grammarly works where the user works, while other environments like ChatGPT, where users seek help from AI, are often inconvenient in this context. You have to copy text and switch between platforms.
Additionally, ChatGPT can be a great tool for creating a first draft of text, but other types of tools may be needed for deeper editing, fact-checking, and contextualization.
“Rather, we see ChatGPT not as a threat, but as an inspiration to move in the direction of developing AI services. We believe that in the future there will be several key players in the AI sphere. We want Grammarly to be one of those major companies that bring AI directly to users,” said Shishir Merotra.
As a reminder, this month Grammarly launched 8 specialized AI agents for students and professionals. In addition, the company is soon launching an updated Grammarly Editor — the main environment within Grammarly for editing documents. Some of its features are already available.
“I expect Grammarly and our AI agents to work in many different applications. But we want them to work best in our own environments. We see a clear market demand for this from many customers. In the world of AI agents, every interface and application will have to adapt. In some cases, we have decided to take on these changes ourselves,” the company’s CEO added.
We previously wrote that Grammarly plans to change its name by the end of the year as part of the company's transformation.
