Today we expect the release of the "terribly smart" Grok 3 from Elon Musk: what you need to know

xAI says that the development of Grok 3 was accelerated by the Colossus supercomputer, which was built in just eight months. The system, powered by 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, delivered 200 million GPU hours of training — ten times more than its predecessor, Grok 2. This significant increase in computing resources helped Grok 3 process large data sets more efficiently, reducing training time and increasing accuracy.

In addition to increasing computing power, xAI has adjusted its training approach to improve the capabilities of Grok 3. The model now uses synthetic datasets, self-correction mechanisms, and reinforcement learning to improve its performance:

• Synthetic datasets are artificially created datasets, rather than collected from real sources. They are used to train AI models by simulating different scenarios, providing a diverse and controlled set of data. This helps improve training efficiency and address data privacy concerns.
• Self-correction mechanisms are AI techniques that allow a model to detect and correct its own errors. By evaluating its results and comparing them to known correct answers, the model can improve its answers over time, reducing errors and increasing accuracy.
• Reinforcement learning is a type of machine learning where an AI model learns by receiving rewards or punishments for its actions. The system learns to maximize positive outcomes through trial and error, improving its decision-making capabilities.

According to Musk, these improvements will reduce the number of incorrect answers — known as hallucinations — through the use of multiple stages of verification, increase logical accuracy by checking information from reliable sources, and adapt more effectively through constant self-assessment and learning.

xAI also reports that feedback loops and contextual learning have been implemented to provide more natural and accurate responses.

Contextual learning is about teaching AI to understand and adapt its responses based on context. This means taking into account previous interactions, user intent, and surrounding information to generate more accurate and relevant responses.

According to xAI, the model was designed to generate deep and unexpected solutions, making it a more effective tool for solving problems — and preliminary tests show that Grok 3 outperforms its competitors, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s DeepMind Gemini, on complex reasoning tasks.

In a video interview at the World Government Summit, held in Dubai from February 11 to 13, Musk said that «this might be the last time AI is better than Grok.» Musk also suggested that the product is still «a week or two away» from launch and that he doesn’t want to «rush» to ensure the best user experience.

But it seems he decided to push the release early, writing on X that he would be «honing the product with the team all weekend» and that he would be «offline until then.»

The bot was trained on synthetic data, he said, and could look at it to achieve logical consistency. «So if it has erroneous data, it will analyze it and remove the incorrect data,» he said. «Its basic reasoning is very good.»

As a reminder, Grok tokens (GROK) surged 54% on Sunday after Elon Musk confirmed that Grok 3 from his AI startup xAI would launch on Monday. The current market value of GROK tokens is $0.005305, and the total market cap is $33.6 million.
