Speaking to IGN ahead of the financial report, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that while «there’s always a risk of a delay,» the company «feels very good about this [fall 2025]».
«Look, there’s always a risk of slipping up, and I think as soon as you say words like ‘absolutely,’ you’re casting a spell», — Zelnick said when asked how confident he was that Rockstar would release GTA 6 in the fall of 2025.
He stated that the company is aware of Rockstar’s commitment to excellence.
«I like to say that arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we’re all running around scared, looking over our shoulders, knowing that our competitors are not sleeping. Our entire organization is very excited», — Zelnick noted.
The release date for GTA VI is one of the most talked about topics in the entertainment industry, with rival publishers waiting for Rockstar to make an announcement. EA CEO Andrew Wilson previously said that he was willing to delay the release of the new Battlefield until the next fiscal year depending on the release dates of competitors' games, a subtle hint at GTA VI.
Previously, renowned gaming journalist Jason Schreier said that the anticipation for GTA VI is so high that other game developers and publishers are waiting as long as possible to set release dates for their games in the fall. The journalist’s sources claim that the publishers want to see if GTA VI will make it to the intended 2025 release window or if it will be pushed back to 2026. They are determined to keep their own games «far, far away» from this high-profile release.
Schreier also added that several deadlines have already been missed in the development of GTA VI, which is «common practice for Rockstar,» and the developers are working at the limit of their capabilities.
In its financial report, Take-Two reported that Grand Theft Auto V has sold an incredible 210 million copies worldwide. GTA Online had a «strong» quarter thanks to the Agents of Sabotage update. GTA+ users grew 10% compared to the previous quarter.
Red Dead Redemption 2, meanwhile, has sold more than 70 million copies, with Take-Two noting that it is currently seeing its highest level of concurrent play on Steam.
At the same time, the company recently corrected an error with the regional price for the Ukrainian edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate, which was cheaper than the standard edition after a price increase last year. Now, the regional price of RDR 2 for Ukraine is one of the highest in the world.
