Disabled Icelandic IT worker fired from Twitter by Musk will help build 100 ramps in Lviv

Haraldur Ingi «Gallie» Thorleifsson became famous in 2023, after Elon Musk acquired Twitter and began changing it according to his vision.

In 2014, Thorleifsson founded Ueno, a creative technology services company. In 2021, it was acquired by Twitter, then run by Jack Dorsey, and Haraldur began working for the famous social network.

When Musk bought Twitter, Thorleifsson couldn’t figure out if he had been fired from the company and asked the new owner about it. In response, Elon Musk started trolling the IT guy, who has been in a wheelchair for the past 20 years. Haraldur Thorleifsson was born with a genetic disease called muscular dystrophy (dysferlinopathy), so at the age of 25 he had to transfer to a wheelchair.

In 2021, Haraldur helped launch the Ramp Up Reykjavík project, a joint venture between local businesses, unions, government ministries, associations, banks, and city officials to help local businesses install wheelchair ramps. The project was later expanded to Ramp Up Iceland, with the goal of installing 100 ramps across Iceland.

In July 2025, Thorleifsson announced the launch of Ramp Up Ukraine.

«With the help of a $100,000 donation to Ramp Up, we are launching a pilot project to build 100 ramps in the center of Lviv. The first few ramps are being built right now. Glory to Ukraine,» wrote the Icelandic IT enthusiast.

The Ramp Up website reports that the ramp construction project is being implemented jointly with the local authorities of Lviv. Its completion is scheduled for autumn 2025. It is noted that the project is being funded by a donation from Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.
