Bill Gates announced the end of the era of smartphones. They will be replaced by electronic tattoos: what is it about?

Billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates has predicted the smartphone era will soon end, saying it will be replaced by electronic tattoos, an innovative technology already being actively developed by startups like Chaotic Moon, which was acquired by Accenture. Billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates has predicted the smartphone era will soon end, saying it will be replaced by electronic tattoos, an innovative technology already being actively developed by startups like Chaotic Moon, which was acquired by Accenture. Gates believes that the benefits of such solutions — eliminating passwords, bank cards, physical keys and even smartphones — will outweigh the risks.

According to the Microsoft founder, these smart tattoos will soon become the main way to communicate and access digital services.

Electronic tattoos are thin, temporary skin applications with «smart paint» and nanocapacitors that allow you to exchange information, send messages, open doors, or use the Internet with gestures or touch. They are virtually invisible, have no screen, do not require large batteries, and integrate directly with the human body.

In addition to digital functions, these tattoos can monitor vital signs — such as heart rate, body temperature, or other health parameters. This combines the capabilities of a fitness tracker and a means of communication, creating a completely new format of interaction with technology — without gadgets in your hands.

At the same time, the spread of such technology raises a number of ethical questions. Electronic tattoos collect a large amount of personal data: from geolocation to medical indicators. Cybersecurity issues are no less acute — theoretically, attackers can gain access to biometric information or even the identity of the owner.

However, the new technology could exacerbate social inequality if it remains inaccessible to certain groups of the population. In the long term, electronic tattoos have the potential to radically change both the culture of technology consumption and our interactions with each other.
