“They don’t understand how annoying they are.” Palantir CEO harshly criticizes OpenAI and Anthropic
Palantir CEO Alex Karp has lashed out at leading AI labs, including OpenAI and Anthropic, accusing their leaders of lacking basic self-awareness and their approach to developing and deploying technology that is too disconnected from real business needs.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp has lashed out at leading AI labs, including OpenAI and Anthropic, accusing their leaders of lacking basic self-awareness and their approach to developing and deploying technology that is too disconnected from real business needs.
This was reported by Business Insider, citing an interview with Karp on CNBC. The head of Palantir, whose business is directly related to military and corporate AI solutions, did not hold back in epithets, commenting on the culture of San Francisco and the business models of his partners and at the same time competitors.
«They don’t understand how annoying they are. I told them that. I probably shouldn’t have,» Karp said. He noted that Silicon Valley developers are too focused on the distant future and believe that they don’t have to solve customer problems today, because «everything will be solved tomorrow.» The businessman called this attitude «largely religious.»
Karp also criticized the companies' products themselves. According to him, the AI giants' developments do not actually work as customers expect and are extremely expensive. He is particularly outraged by the approach to deploying the technologies. According to him, most of the representatives of these companies simply relax over a cup of latte, reading reports about technical capabilities that they do not even understand.
Sam Altman’s new initiative received a special mention. Karp called the recently created OpenAI Deployment Company structure «an absolute farce» and a failed attempt to copy Palantir’s work model. At the same time, Karp clarified that he respects industry leaders as individuals: he called conversations with Sam Altman and Dario Amodei (Anthropic) some of the most interesting in his career.
The statements of the head of Palantir about the «inconvenience» of competitors look quite ironic, because his own company has long been at the epicenter of high-profile scandals and is subject to harsh criticism. Human rights activists, media and technology activists have repeatedly accused Palantir of creating mass surveillance systems, developing AI for military purposes without proper control, as well as cooperating with the US immigration service (ICE) to identify and deport people. Due to the secrecy and specificity of contracts, Karp’s company is often called one of the least ethical in Silicon Valley.
«I see a disturbing picture: we are paying with blood for data that someone else can convert into capitalization.» Military blogger questions what cooperation with Palantir gives Ukraine
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
