This was stated by Serhiy "Flash" Beskrestnov, Advisor to the President of Ukraine on Defense Technologies, during a conversation with journalists on October 29 in Kyiv.
According to him, the speed that Ukrainian interceptor manufacturers were focusing on until recently is no longer enough. The Russian Federation is constantly improving its drones, and developers have to adapt to the new capabilities of the Russians.
"Our guys built interceptors that worked against the Shaheds at 300 km/h, but that's no longer relevant. We needed to make new interceptors that would fly at 500, 600, 700 km/h," Beskrestnov explained.
Moreover, making a drone fast is only half the battle. It still needs to spot an enemy drone in time, accurately target it, and hit its target. So developers need to improve guidance and automatic target acquisition systems, as well as make the interceptors easy enough to use so that they can be used on the front lines on a large scale.
"Creating a model that flies quickly is only one part. And making a serial product that will be very easy to use is a completely different matter," Beskrestnov emphasized.
Previously, dev.ua wrote that the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine warned about the possible acceleration of Russian jet drones to 800–900 km/h.
