Members of an organized group that stole more than UAH 1.5 million from the accounts of fallen Ukrainian soldiers by gaining access to their online banking will be tried in Dnipro.
According to the press service of the Dnipropetrovs’k Region Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation revealed that the defendants, using an employee of the Bureau of Forensic Medicine, stole SIM cards and mobile phones of the dead soldiers at the morgue.
Since there was an IT specialist among the members of the organized group, his function, according to the prosecutor’s office, was to change passwords and gain full access to the victims' online banking.
Other unlawful acts alleged against the organized crime group include cash withdrawals, obtaining loans in the names of the victims, and transferring money to their own accounts. The prosecutor’s office has identified at least 20 victims in this case.
Currently, all members of the group are in custody, and the prosecutor’s office has sent an indictment to the court against the organizer and four members of the organized crime group on the facts of theft, fraud and unauthorized interference with the work of automated information systems.
