On the morning of June 17, Russian forces launched two drone strikes on the Nova Poshta sorting terminal in Sumy, where 13,000 shipments were being processed. No employees were injured, but the attack damaged the building’s roof, some equipment, and mesh containers containing parcels.
The Nova Poshta press service reported about the attack on the company's official social media pages. It is noted that the fire that broke out on the territory of the hub as a result of the hits was promptly extinguished by the State Emergency Service units.
According to preliminary data, at the time of the impact, there were over 13,000 shipments in the terminal. Their total declared value exceeds UAH 42 million. Currently, the company's specialists are assessing the damage and establishing the exact number of surviving and destroyed cargo.
“Nova Poshta will compensate customers for the declared value of shipments that were damaged or destroyed as a result of the attack,” the company said. Customers can quickly track the current status of their parcels via the company’s mobile application or directly on the operator’s website.
This is not the first time that the company's civilian logistics infrastructure has been targeted by Russian shelling. Previously, Nova Poshta terminals in Odessa, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and other cities in Ukraine have been repeatedly destroyed by missile strikes and drone attacks.
