“If it’s been a tough night, we postpone morning meetings”. How Ukrainian IT is adapting to increasing Russian attacks

Ukrainian IT companies continue to hire specialists despite increasing hostile attacks on offices, data centers, and infrastructure. To maintain continuity of processes, businesses are adapting work schedules and interviews to the security situation, providing IT workers with equipment for autonomous work at home, and equipping points of presence with generators and batteries.
This is stated in the material of the DOU publication, which interviewed representatives of Ukrainian IT companies about changes in their work processes and approaches to hiring.
Over the past month, Kyivstar.Tech facilities in Kyiv and the region have come under hostile Russian attacks three times, in particular, the engineering team's office and a building with equipment were damaged.
"The shelling did not directly affect the work of our team. Kyivstar.Tech previously worked mainly in a remote format, so the processes are already built so that teams can perform tasks regardless of physical location," said Kyivstar.Tech CEO Andriy Zhukovsky.
He emphasized that the company has not revised budgets, continues to hire specialists, and additionally provides the team with batteries and other solutions for autonomy.
The IT product company EVO has noticed people's exhaustion due to nighttime shelling, so they have implemented adaptive internal communication rules.
“The company has a rule: if we had a difficult night, we postpone morning meetings, communicate directly about it and ask employees to take more time for themselves if possible,” said Olena Oleksienko, Chief of People Team at EVO.
According to her, the company also easily postpones the time of interviews with candidates if one of the participants is unavailable after the shelling, and continues to pay partial compensation to specialists for the purchase of equipment for home energy independence.
PrivatBank has noticed a clear trend among job applicants: specialists are increasingly looking for exclusively remote work. This has made it more difficult to find candidates for positions that require a mandatory presence in the office.
Previously, specialists from the MAUDAU marketplace, developers from TemaBit Fozzy Group, and the E-commerce & Ecosystem department have already been optimized.
