The platform «Diya.Osvita» has released two practical guides for parents and children on online safety in gaming and decoding PEGI age ratings. The materials are designed to protect minors from cyberbullying, phishing, and unplanned financial expenses in games.
The first guide focuses on how to deal with cyber threats. It covers phishing, fake offers of «free» skins, blackmail attempts, and grooming. The authors offer step-by-step instructions on blocking aggressive users, preserving evidence of violations, and contacting the Cyber Police.
The second article explains how the European PEGI age rating system works. The rating evaluates a game’s content —whether it contains violence, foul language, gambling elements, or hidden microtransactions for real money. The guide also includes recommendations for setting up parental controls, two-factor authentication, and spending limits on game accounts.
PEGI (Pan-European Game Information) is a European content classification system for video games and applications, launched in April 2003 by the European Interactive Software Federation. It operates in 36 countries and contains five age categories and nine content descriptors. The PEGI rating only determines the suitability of the content for the consumer’s age, not the level of difficulty of the game.
