SpaceX CEO Elon Musk confirmed in a post on X on Sunday that it was not a glitch but a deliberate decision by the company, TechCrunch reports .
“The cost of maintaining Grok Bot turned out to be unreasonably high compared to the revenues,” Musk said in response to a user’s question. He did not comment on this decision on his main page, continuing to advertise the bot’s ability to buy gifts for family.
The situation contrasts with the financial success of the development. Grok Bot was considered a key success for the public company SpaceX, which in its latest report reported that the artificial intelligence direction provides 52% of its revenues.
The renamed “Super Intelligence” division even made a profit of $431 million, a rarity in the AI industry (the figure could have been higher if not for the one-time $1.2 billion purchase of the Cursor service). Musk himself previously called Grok Bot “the fastest-growing product of his lifetime.”
