This was reported by the Indian publication Hindustan Times, citing sources. According to them, Ukraine raised this issue with the EU’s envoy for sanctions, David O’Sullivan, during his visit to New Delhi in mid-July.
Ukrainian experts determined that electronic components that were assembled or manufactured in India by Vishay Intertechnology and Aura Semiconductor were «used by Russia in the production of Shahed 136 unmanned aerial vehicles.» The documents contained detailed information and images of specific components.
In particular, the «E300359 bridge rectifier» from Vishay Intertechnology was used in Shahed’s voltage regulation unit, and the AU5426A PLL-based chip from Aura Semiconductor was used in the protected antenna for the drone’s satellite navigation system.
Sources say that formally the companies did not violate Indian laws.
«India’s exports of dual-use items are in line with its international non-proliferation obligations and are based on a sound domestic legal and regulatory framework. Careful scrutiny is carried out to ensure that such exports do not violate any of our laws,» said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Vishay Intertechnology declined to comment on the use of its components in Russian kamikaze drones, while the co-founder of Aura Semiconductor Pvt Ltd said the company «fully complies with all applicable national and international export control laws.»
«We are deeply concerned that any of our components may have reached defense manufacturers through unauthorized third-party channels, in violation of our stated compliance system and distribution agreements. We strongly oppose such activities and are committed to taking action if violations are identified,» Aura Semiconductor said in a statement.
It is noted that Indian legal components were exported to West Asian countries, and from there they could reach Russia.
«Unfortunately, we are detecting Indian components in Russian strike drones. These are drones that are used on the front and against civilians, in particular, Shahed/Geranium. It is necessary to deprive the Russians of the opportunity to receive components from other countries and stop the killings of Ukrainians,» the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, commented on the Hindustan Times article.
Earlier, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) published on the War&Sanctions portal information about almost 200 new parts and components used in six types of Russian weapons. Experts noted that an Indian-made component was discovered in the Russian weapon — a clock buffer from Aura Semiconductor.
