In a video by Russian tech blogger Wysacom dedicated to the unannounced iPad Pro with the M5 chip, an iPad Pro 13 with Ukrainian markings was spotted. Could it have come to Russia from Ukraine?
The publication «Economic Truth» received a comment from the official distributor of Apple gadgets, «Asbis Ukraine». They noted that Apple does not produce unique packaging for each country, so many devices have the same markings for a certain region.
Ukraine is usually included in a group of several countries, which includes Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and others. At the same time, Ukrainian legislation also requires the importer’s details to be indicated on the packaging.
Therefore, at one point in the Wysacom video, you can see the marking on the box, which indicates the importer is «Apple Ukraine». But the gadget could have been purchased in any of the countries in the region and delivered to Russia by a private carrier.
Asbis Ukraine checked the serial number of the tablet seen in the Russian blogger’s video and found no matches with gadgets imported to Ukraine. The company noted that Apple makes only one gadget exclusively for the Ukrainian market — a MacBook with a Ukrainian keyboard layout.
Recall that last year, two Russian tech bloggers showed off what they said was a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip, which was expected to be announced in just a month. This was called one of the biggest leaks of unannounced Apple gadgets since an employee accidentally left an iPhone 4 prototype in a bar in California in 2010.
