The round is led by New York-based Union Square Ventures, as well as new US investors Tamarack Global and IQ Capital, Resilience Media reports. Isembard previously raised $9 million in funding led by Notion.
The startup (whose name is not related to The Lord of the Rings, but rather a reference to the British Isembard Kingdom Brunel) has created an artificial intelligence platform called MasonOS. It aims to connect hardware companies with a network of factories to identify and then manufacture the various components that make up their systems.
«We are different from a typical manufacturer in two ways. First, we actually create our own software that runs our factories,» said Alexander Fitzgerald, CEO and founder of the company.
According to him, the startup is not building one large centralized factory, but a network of small and medium-sized factories. Isembard is already working with such well-known miltech companies as Anduril, Tekever, and ARX Robotics.
Scroll.media reports that Isembard’s new plants include a factory in Ukraine. They will also appear in Britain, the United States, Germany, and France.
«Let’s say you’re building an unmanned system, like a drone. You send us a 3D file with the design of the key parts. We give you a quote — how quickly we can make it and at what price. Then we machine that part from the right material and ship it to you,» Fitzgerald explained.
